Yes, too often we just blithely join the party without understanding the reason for the celebration. There's no depth, no consideration, no cause-and-effect to our action. Christmas has an incredible wealth of layers—secular, spiritual, folkloric, historical, geographic, cultural, literary, musical, etc.—woven into its traditions and practice. The richness comes from knowing the whys and hows and wheres of what you're observing.
Me, too. Every year, the feeling is the same…a wonderful, delightful, even child-like growing expectancy as the season unfolds. The air is filled with wonder and magic. And I hope I never change.
