SUNLIGHT AND HOSTAS

Recent warm weather and the occasional rain has really popped the hostas. Their leafy green clumps have shot up like magic. Some are already well over a foot high.

The photo was made a few days ago, just as the late-afternoon sun was starting to sink behind the tops of the tall sycamores on the island across from the cottage. Myladylove and I were sprawled in our pair of deckside rockers. Tired and fairly bummed. After working all day on various kitchen remodeling details, we'd come to the joint conclusion neither of us liked the paint color we'd chosen and just applied to one wall. We'd now have to buy something else and do the job over.

Looking around, I noticed how low-angled sunlight glowed through the semi-translucent leaves of a nearby hosta and made a couple of casual shots…click, click. Frankly the image turned out way better than I expected. Simple, straightforward, compositionally strong.

Wish I was even half this pleased with the kitchen wall.

Nothing more annoying than painting a wall and then not liking the colour, let alone having to re paint.

Penny…

I agree. You have this idea in your head of what it's supposed to look like, carefully pick the exact color match, move stuff, tape off corners, counters, etc., and apply your paint. Then it dries…and is just one ugly mess. Not at all what you envisioned. A redo for sure! But you don't even want to try and make it right—rather just go a completely different direction the next time around. Which is where I'm at now. Rethinking the whole wall.

Hi Grizz - lovely vibrant photo of Spring's green delights!
And I too understand about paint - one time, to Skipp's dismay, after he painted our living room in two shades of green, to accent one another, well, the accent was horrid - the one shade of green looked like an Easter basket candy - eeeeww, so ya, he had to repaint that one wall!! eesh!!
Other news!! ALL of my blood labs came back "great" Praise The Lord - I/we are SO happy and relieved. I feel so blessed and calm. Amen
Love to you my friend

Gail…

This is a first for me. I'm pretty "artsy" and generally have a good eye for pre-visualizing and working with color. But this time—this particular shade of yellow, which should have worked with our medium tone slaty-blue/gray walls to give the kitchen a cheery bright—but not too bright—uplift, simply didn't. I was looking for just a bump up, a little morning glow to set things off a bit. Instead, it dried down way darker than I anticipated and looks dreadful. Now I'm thinking to scrap the notion entirely and just paint the fourth wall the same. Or maybe go with a very pale sherbet so's to get a tad of warming orange in there. I dunno.

That's great news re. your blood labs. I know you're happy and relieved—as you should be. That's news for praise indeed!

I'm set to have my once-every-three-years colonoscopy first thing tomorrow, so today I'm on clear liquids and tonight I'll be sipping the nasty gallon of prep swill. Oh boy! I get to do the final half starting at 3:00 a.m. THAT'S really gonna be fun!!!!

It's always something….

Hi again - oh my, sending prayers for all good outcomes. As I recall, didn't you have that procedure done without the conscious sedation?? I remember your sharing and how my toes curled and my face contorted and I squirmed for you!!~ Good Lord!!
Love you

Gail…

Yup, three times as a matter of fact. I didn't think it all that uncomfortable—not fun, but on a scale of 1-to-10, at worst a 2 or 3. Don't know whether they'll do it that way this time or not, but I dread drinking the prep a lot more than the actual procedure.

Thank you re. prayers. I appreciate that very much.

Best, always…
