SUMMER'S LAST DAY

Today is the last day of summer…and as if the season were trying to atone for its excessive weeks of sweltering heat, it has served up a parting gift of bright sunshine and refreshing cool temperatures. I'll take both, thank you very much, and consider this temporary reprieve from yesterday's prediction of continued showers a sort of peace offering until next year.

At a glance, you might not notice we're on the cusp of seasonal change. The vegetation along the river is still mostly green. You have to search for any leaf sporting a hint of color. But a close look reveals an overall rustiness to the landscape, a weary yellowing, like a tired carnival troupe at the end of long tour. Summer has lost its vibrant shine, time moves on, autumn's golden flames are starting to glow.

The weatherman still calls for rain tomorrow, which means it's not likely I'll be able to get out and about and welcome autumn with a long ramble afield. So, after my morning appointment at the eye doctor's, I think I'm going to jump the gun and do my seasonal-hello amble early.

Has that lovely greenish tinge in the water already gone Grizz?

HI GRIZZ - great picture of Summer's end - as it hangs on to its color and purpose with little success - although today, here, it is dank and quite humid - tropical even and I am not thrilled. We put the AC back on to dry things out. sigh...... DOlan is packing up to go back t Brooklyn - we had a wonderful visit and he will be back in a couple of months for my Mom's 88th b'day :-) and then again for Thanksgiving. "YAY" Have a cool and lovely day

I love your photo today, Grizz. Here, it's foggy and drizzly again (no sun to say goodbye to summer).

Weaver…

Unfortunately, yes…at least temporarily. Yesterday's rain turned the water a bit brownish and murky. It's not up much, however, no more than a few inches. We're to have more rain starting this evening and continuing through the weekend. The river will eventually clear, of course, how soon depending on how much rain we receive. But whether the greenish hue will still be there I fon't know. Too much rain will certainly wash out whatever is making that green.

Gail…

My eye doc appointment went okay, though it took longer than anticipated due to another patient who needed extra time for a problem. Which isn't a complaint; stuff comes up. When I came out, though, the morning sunshine had been replaced with a thickening cloud cover—which is actually much better conditions for most sorts of photography. What was too good was the eye they'd dilated for the exam, which bothered me to the point that I've given up early on my photo ramble—though I mat go out again later.

It's 70˚F here now. There's chicken soup in the fridge…and I'm ready for lunch!

I've already lost my day's earlier sun. The clouds have rolled in, it's pretty dim out, and days of rain are a'comin'. However………SUMMER IS ALMOST OVER!
