RAIN, LIFE

A male blue dasher perches on a twig.

There's a noisy thundershower moving through. One of those on-off-on storms which creeps in from the west, low and ominously dark, muttering and growling dire threats as it approached. The front was a brief wall of rushing wind. And the initial roaring downpour, as usual, tried to make you think it just might wash the place away—only to quickly stop, then restart, stop again, start, and so on, a dozen times, gradually taking longer pauses and delivering subsequently lighter rains.

I've been mostly working at the desk, with a couple of forays earlier to coax Moon-the-Dog out to do her business. My old pooch pulled a shoulder muscle the other morning getting up from her bed and has been having real problems moving around since. I'm giving her pain pills, plus she's been taking joint supplements for years. Still, she's also 15 years old and…well, I'm worried.

One of the things I've been doing is editing through some of the images I made the same day and place as the wild rose shot which accompanied the previous post. The small, cattail-fringed pond is tucked away out of sight from the road in the back of an old field. It's one of my favorite haunts for stalking dragonflies. I'll try to not overdo using the bug images I collect, but they're just so colorful—

Hey, I will try.

(And please do let me know about this revised layout. Still too big a font? Too small? Too whatever? I'm looking for input.)

Font is perfect for me.
Like your bug shot. What are you going to do with your other bug shots? I wanna see.

Weaver…

It sure is, in fact the whole colorful ensemble is just amazing. Which is why I so enjoy photographing dragonflies and damselflies.

By the way, how is this typeface and size doing on your machine? Okay?

I'm really glad the font seems to be working. I want visitor to have the best possible experience and enjoy their time here—not futzing with technology.

As to additional "bug" shots…have no fear, I'll post 'em—dragonflies, damselflies, butterflies, and various other insect-type critters that flutter, hop, or crawl my way. My challenge is to not post too many, and to make sure I intersperse shots of flowers, birds, water, trees, and so on.

HI GRIZZ - first my prayers are going to to Moon that she is on hte mend soon.
ANd that picture above? My God Grizz - itis exquisite, gorgeous, detaioed and SO beautoful. I was blown away.

And now, about the font, for me? It is too light and too thin. And I am not all that fond of the slant. SO, there you have it. :-)
Love to you

I like this font, not sure if it couldnt be a bit smaller. but I can certainly read it. Love that 'bug'.
Feel rather like moon dog, the new knee is taking its time settling in, good days and not so good but getting there.

Moon seems to be a bit better, which is great. Thank you so much for your prayers. I've been too worried to sleep much, and have spent every night this past week mostly sitting and dozing in my recliner the great room—though not really resting. Maybe tonight I'll manage more than an hour actually in the bed. I hope. I'm just exhausted.

Aren't dragonflies just awesome! Such color!

Perhaps I'll try out a different font or two as I tweak my was along with this redo. This one is a rather light face, though it looks fine on my Mac's screen, iPod, and iPad. That slant business is only in the italic version…which I did in the last paragraph to set it apart from the actual post text. Magazine habits which remain ingrained. Letters on the main text don't slant—right? How about the actual size…still slightly too big? Anyway, keep commenting; it helps.

On my screen, when set at 100% magnification, the size looks good—about the size of the print in a novel. But I have my screen's display resolution at its highest setting, 1920 x 1080, which does make things smaller. Probably what I need to do is back my setting down to a 1:1 resolution, and adjust to that—which I frankly didn't think to do before. And I will, tomorrow.

Thank you for letting me know. And I appreciate the nice words. Take care of that knee—the end result will be worth it!

Hi Again -0 I hope you and Moon get some much needed sleep. Sending all good thoughts.

ANd yes, dragon flies are so amazing. I have two dragon fly pins, one is Austrian crystal that reflects all color and one is purple and green and clear stones gorgeous.. Each is so lovely. The purple/green/clear one a friend gave me and the other was part of my gift when I retired. I also gave my Mom one which she loved and funny story, we looked for it on all of her jackets since it wasn't in any of her jewelry boxes and never found it. When we donated her clothes to the church some lucky person got the jacket and the dragon fly pin!

Now, the font. The main text is not slanted but the style is, oh, kind of curly or busy, hard to explain and for me it is NOT to big since I can't se too well. The italic part is odd. Doesn't flow in my opinion. I like block lettering and thicker lines. That's just me though. I will read your blog no matter what font you use.
Love to you my friend

A stunning shot of the blue dasher. I have many of these dragonflies in my back yard and I never tire of them.

Well, I'm up and at 'em again…it rained hard during the night but the morning is awash in bright sunshine…I slept, with only minor interruptions, in the bed the whole night long…and Moon is doing better.

Can't beat that for a report!

I like the dragonfly pin story—and I trust it has found a good and intended home. Your mother is doubtless smiling.

Appreciate the feedback re. typeface. I may try some different fonts. My one personal complaint with this one—and it's only minor, for I like the look of it otherwise—is that it's maybe a bit "open." It is light, modern, less pronounced than, say, the familiar and widely used helvetica. But it does seem to me very readable, which first and foremost, should be the working criteria when choosing a text typeface.

Be good…

Dragonflies just delight and fascinate me photographically—I keep making image after image and can't seem to get enough. Their color and beauty, almost otherworldliness, the challenge of trying to get that shot in perfect light which captures their magic…there's absolutely no end.

I sound pretty far gone, huh? :-D
