WAS IT SOMETHING I SAID?

I hadn't spotted my local Cooper's hawk lately, until yesterday. When some survival-related uneasiness niggled in a dark corner of my brain, I looked up from my writing desk and saw one fiercely glaring at me from a leafy hideout in the nearby box elder.

"What," I said, staring back, "little ol' you is sitting there considering big ol' me as potential lunch? Doesn't that strike you as foolishly optimistic?"

My remarks must have offended the raptor, for it abruptly shook its feathers before turning its head, never deigning to look my way again. After perhaps five minutes of inspecting, studying, scrutinizing, and what might have been a hawk-version of intense gaping, at all manner of objects in every viewable direction except towards my workroom window, the miffed Cooper's flew off.

Nobody likes sassy prey.

HI GRIZZ - great chat with one of nature's flying friends. I love your relationships with all your river wild life.
Thanks SO such for the warm b'day wishes. And, my scooter was delivered today. Skipp is busy figuring out those not so easy assembly instructions. I think I hear a few swear words. I am remaining quietly optimistic. :-)
Pictures to fol;low once I am up and running. Or driving all of 5 mph, cool huh?
Hope you are feeling better. I am not out of the woods but it is what it is.....\Love to you always

This made me smile Grizz - wish I had such a bird just outside my workroom window. The best I can hope for is young woodpeckers, who have taken over one of our bird boxes and pecked the entrance bigger.

Gail…

Hope you had a great birthday and got the scooter up and going—and I'm betting you'll learn to love the relief and independence it provides.

I'm glad you got a kick out of my hawk talk—which I really did have, though whether the hawk heard or cared I don't know. I talk to everything, from fish to trees, and have for years. Fact is, I don't remember a time in my life when speaking to a dog or cat, horse, chicken, or backyard squirrels, wasn't natural. It seemed only right to do the same with bullfrogs and such…and I guess the rest just logically followed. I talk to "my" river, too.

I am feeling better, and still doing the antibiotics. The infection now appears to be under control, so maybe I've dodged a hospital stay. I hope…and I hope you continue to improve, too.

Hey, there's absolutely nothing wrong with window-side woodpeckers! I just take delight in seeing whatever comes my way on a given day—and there's always something.

HI GRIZZ - yes, the scooter is all together. Plan to talk our first ride/walk about our neighborhood tomorrow. Gracie-Blue too.
I do so appreciate, admire and enjoy your relationship with nature and your conversations are priceless as well as your wisdom, understanding, and respect of all life. Including your river. Which, lives for sure.
So glad your infection is under control. I ma better too but wont feel secure until after I see my doc on Wednesday and get the "all clear" nod. Fingers crossed.
Our b'day dinner last night was lovely, I posted some pics on facebook if you get a moment and would like to see.
Well, Happy Labor Day my friend, be well.
Love Gail

My old pal Frank became an immediate terror the moment he tried his first trip around the block on a scooter. I have no doubt you'll be the same—and the only way Skipp will be able to settle you down is by hiding your battery. Think ahead—come Christmas shopping time, you can go the the biggest mall in the state, zip around for hours in and out of stores, sitting in comfort, tooting your horn like a madwoman, while everyone else trudges hurriedly in your wake, gasiping for breath, arms laden with packages, fighting crowds and fatigue. They'll simply HATE you…which will be oodles of fun. Scooter bliss!

Glad you too are feeling better, and hope the doc visit confirms it.

Only speculatively, in passing…to a hungry Cooper's hawk.
