LOVELY SUNRISE

Sunrise was lovely this morning—the light strong and rich, golden as the jars of wildflower honey my uncle used to bring us from his bees which he kept in hives at the back of his garden down on the mysterious Green River. Inspiring. Enough that I made this shot of the river…enough that a merry song sparrow was moved to fill the air with his cheery notes.

Of course it could be well argued that any morning—golden-washed sunrise and birdsong-filled or not—ought to be counted lovely, given that no guarantees were handed out when we turned in the night before that we'd be among those waking up to check things out.

Days are life's blessing—a bit more allotted time to look around and appreciate the gift.

That is a stunning photo, you can see every little movement in the water. Love it.
Not quite sure about your last few words though!

So true, Grizz. Thanks for the reminder!

Penny…

For me—though I see it in some rendition every time I step beyond the doorway—the spell of light on moving water never ends…nor do my attempts to record, as best I can, that natural magic.

The latter part was just me musing a bit, as I seem to do often anymore, on the simple gift of day-by-day continuation—a blessing I do not want to waste or take for granted, given that it is both fragile and finite. A reminder to myself, really.

A day is like a brand new page—not blank, but filled with shadowy potential…wonder, joy, the capacity for adventure. It is up to us to make those colors glow bright. I sometimes have to give myself a kick in the rear to remind me to not get caught up wallowing in all those things which wait to rob me of this glorious gift of time and life.

Hey, today my daffodils poked green shoots up between through mud and duff and lingering patches of snow! And while the first of the week was in the single digits, right now it's 56˚F out. Spring just has to be coming!

HI GRIZZ - your picture is crisp and sharp, almost blinding like I have to squint to take it all in. Glorious light and sparkle of a days new dawn and promise.
I/We too are so filled with gratitude for each day we can 'see', touch, smell, sound, love, give, know, not know, believe, hope, surrender, give thanks....Amen
Your picture and words give deeper meaning to the every day blessings, "thank you"...
Love Gail
peace......

Jennifer…

Thank you. I've been seriously slipshod about posting lately—whether by lack of inspiration or simple laziness is something not even I know, in all honesty—but wanted to share the song sparrow and sunrise-on-water shots. I'm glad you liked the post.

(Hey, I like your different sorta-smiley emoticon…haven't seen it like this before.)

Gail…

I appreciate your nice words. Thank you. I've been sort of "layin' low," in the words of Br'er Rabbit. Busy, worn out, fairly useless to any and all, including myself. Guess I'm not only ready for, but in need of spring.

And it's a'comin'!

I am always inspired by how very beautiful the humble sparrows are.

Hi again-
I understand the 'layin-low'. Me too. Changes on the horizon, perhaps for us both huh? Holding you close in friendship and highest regard, always.

I'm a big fan of sparrows. In fact, one of two all-time favorite birds is the exceedingly lovely white-throated sparrow, whose plaintive song always goes straight to my heart. But really, I like the looks and songs and actions (and habitats!) of practically the whole lot of the sparrow clan.

Maybe I've been caught up in a fit of ennui, or some similar undiagnosed lethargy…but I haven't done much the past couple of months other than write, cook, run errands, keep the woodstove going, and fiddle at the always long list of odd tasks around the house.

But spring is, indeed, around the bend, and my days (and mood) will doubtless improve with the weather. I'll sure have plenty to keep me busy!

Take care, and squeeze every single drop out of every single day!

Greetings from Southern Australia where we are hanging out for some rain to end the threat of the fire season. Still - there are golden autumn days to enjoy. I love your photos. I am afraid I put mine on the Redbubble website rather than do a blog, but I too love a photowalk, in my case along a creek. Jean

Welcome! I'm always amazed when someone so far away finds—and enjoys!—this blog. I guess I just can't quite grasp the fact the world is only a click or two away.

Being on opposite ends of the earth, we are looking forward to spring…which after the winter we've had hereabouts, can't come too soon for most folks.

I'm not familiar with Redbubble, but would enjoy seeing some of your work. I just sort of fiddle around at photography anymore—never quite managing to give it the serious time I'd like. But I love being out and looking for those magical scenes. And sometimes I get lucky…

Hey, don't be a stranger! Drop by Riverdaze anytime; you're always welcome.
