APRIL

April gets me every time!
Sodden with birdsong,
Spattered in wildflowers,
Drenched by holy sun.
Thumbnail frogs gather,
Trilling their shrill herald,
A tinkling of distant fairy bells
On violet-scented breeze.
Merry streams sparkle, beckon in
Effervescent promise to feel anew
Cold pulse against my legs and
Probe sweet mystery in their pools.
In streamside glades pure white
bloodroot glows, leaves clasped
In quiet prayer as royal bluebells
Ring bright their song of vernal truth.
When April comes, earth entire
Sings of eternal life. Resurrection!
A joyous jonquil-gold message,
Clear in the robin's outpouring.
In covenant and assurance
We plant our seeds, water,
Watch them sprout and grow.
Belief is easy come April.
April's renewed faith finds
Glory in greening grass,
Hope in budding maple.
Certainty of an empty tomb.
If I could hold back time I might
Compel all Aprils to slow and linger,
Though only for a while,
Because I know what lies beyond…
HAPPY EASTER!

What beautiful words Scribe - an appreciative ode to rebirth. The joy you find in life reminds me of the words of Mother Theresa, "Joy is the inevitable result of a heart burning with love."

Have a wonderful day by the river.

Happy Easter to you too Jim. I love those little "thumbnail frogs" and the whole essence of the poem - yes April might be the cruellest month but it is also full of hope.

Nice to have you back. Enjoy your writing as much as I love your photography.

There is a season for everything, including doubts, sadness, ad the darkness of the soul; but like all seasons, they pass.

Easter is often a time for remembering, as it coincides with the Chinese Qing Ming, ie the Chinese All Souls Day. Memories are often bitter-sweet are they not?

Blessings
Rebecca

I was thinking just the other day how much I love the month of April. Some months seem static. Not much happens in January. Here, the beginning of July is just about as unpleasant and miserable as the end.

But April! Things change so fast that my camera shutter can hardly keep up!

When it all comes it can be so overwhelming, unnerving. For months we have been able to hold on observing the subtle changes, now everything is changing at once. We need to hold on to something to steady ourselves to take it all in.
My best wishes... Tramp

Bernie…

I had a great Easter! I hope you did, too. I appreciate your words yesterday and the day before, too. Thank you so much.

Jayne…

If your Easter was even half as wonderful as mine—ours!—then it was memorable and filled with joy. I hope that's the case.

Happy Easter!

Bonnie…

I'd never heard that quote before, but I know it is so very true. Joy is an outgrowth of love, always.

I hope you had joy on this day. I know, from what I've read on your blog posts that you certainly have the prerequisites.

Wanda…

April and May are my two favorite months of the years…simply because they serve up days like today. I hope you had a lovely Sunday.

Not my best effort…but maybe in a word or line I caught something of what I wanted to say. I hope so.

I've never, never thought April a cruel month. Sure, it isn't June, or even May—but it paves the way and nothing is sweeter than those first April wildflowers, or birds singing their hearts out, the purling green river, and sunshine that feels so wonderful on winter-washed skin.

Faith, hope, belief, joy—April rolls them all into one and fills your heart.

Happy Easter!

Bittersweet? Ahhhh, yes—it is indeed true, and I think it is part of the human condition that such a blessing as a wondrous April can tug both ways…fill us with both joy and sadness.

True, too, as the Book of Ecclesiastes reminds, that for everything there is a season… Seasons do pass, but sometimes they leave their mark.

What I hope when I remember this season is that I recall how very happy—how filled with love and hope—I was on this Easter day.

May peace and joy and love be your today.

Yes, yes! Sleep too long, fail to look around, get sidetracked or lazy—just blink!—and you can miss something come April. I couldn't get my fill of April—capture it all in photos, make the walks through woods and fields and along the creeks, hear all the birds, go mushrooming and wildflower, camping, fishing…and sometimes just flopping flat on my back in a green meadow and looking up at floating clouds and soaring buzzards—couldn't do it all to my satisfaction if April endured for 90 days!

I'm with you. I love April!

Isn't that the truth! April arrives and the clocks speed up. A day last about six hours; weeks are only three days long…and too too soon the month is over and you're just spinning wondering, where did it all go!

April is not a meal, but a banquet!

HI GRIZZ-

April is a wonderful month - warm days and cool nights, breezes and soft rains - the buds are trying hard to rebirth and grow and spread color and aromas and glory about the land - I pray you are well - back in the light - and on the other side of darkness.

Love to you
Gail

Forgive the log delay in replying…I've had cable problems. (See new post.)

Spring is on a fast roll here! Wildflowers popping—new ones almost daily. I can't spend half the time looking and being out as I want to, either! And yup, I expect it, know it's coming, can point almost to the day…and I'm still always surprised at how fast that happens each year.

I'm feeling okay, though still having problems. Have been out taking stock of the woods and myself today. Enjoying the sun and wildflowers and birds. Spring is so wonderful. Hope you're doing well and still having fun with that pup.

I don't think this poem is up to my usual standards of mediocrity…but the I'm glad you liked the "thumbnail frogs" bit.
