The photo above is not of a sunset. I want to make that clear.
Yes, technically speaking, that is the sun slinking down an hour or so ago on its way to hide in shame below the western horizon. But I ask you…do you look at the photo and straightaway think: Wow—look at that breathtaking sunset?
No, of course you don't. And neither did I. I sat on the porch freezing my, uh…well just freezing, camera in hand, waiting for something snazzy—and this is what I got.
Hey, Ol' Sun, I'm perfectly willing to give credit when credit's due. I'll gape and point and ooh and ahh with the best of 'em; I'm always ready to be wowed. But this isn't gettin' it, and I don't see why it's my responsibility to encourage such mediocrity. Dazzle me and I'll take your photo and sing your praises; serve me up stuff like this and I'm going to whine publicly and tell everybody you're slacking.
And while we're at it…what happened to that heat you were supposed to favor us with today? Oh, sure, you finally squeezed out the promised 71 degrees…for about fifteen minutes. But couldn't you manage it between, say, noon and 6:00 p.m.? You were up there shining brightly—just not very warmly. Moreover, did you ever think that 71 measly degrees with a 40-MPH wind produces a chill factor just this side of hypothermic? You expect me to sit out in shorts and a sweatshirt, camera in hand, waiting on you to deliver what turns out to be a lackadaisical performance, with my marrow congealed?
Okay, I've had my say, informed the public and showed them photographic proof. We all have our off days. I'm willing to let bygones be bygones…so long as you amp it up on the sunset colors. And let's cease and desist with the glacial overtones—after all, this is Ohio, not Siberia.

Hahaha! You made me laugh....I was out this morning birding the Little Miami River at the Powder Factory and brrrrr! I was thinking the same things you were. The sun needs to eat its Wheaties...
Oh dear! Getting a little fractious here aren't we? :):) Must be the onset of that hypothermia! Let's face it, life isn't all hot days and spectacular sunsets and anyway we wouldn't appreciate them properly if we got them all the time - not that you need me to tell you that:) Actually that photo has a quiet, tranquil beauty of its own and I like it a lot.
It's been a tough week, Grizz, I know. But I'm worried about you, what with your griping at the sun an' all. It might take offense and return tomorrow all-powerful and give you a painful dose of sunburn when you were least expecting it. So relax, stay cool, my friend, mix a cocktail, open up those whodunnits, pull up that chair, whisper sweet nothings to your ladylove - and forget about those damn paving slabs, just for this bank holiday weekend...
Tee hee hee... you told HIM! :c)
Kelly…
I spent the morning and most of the afternoon crawling about my flower beds (with the occasional fishing aside), often on the point of shivering, uncomfortably cool the rest of the time, looking up at that nice bright sun and wondering why it couldn't put out just a few more degrees.
Ahhh, spring…
Rowan…
Me, fractious? Just grousing and grumbling because I didn't get to spend the day in the woods. Actually, I'll take cool over hot any day. But yesterday evening, after spending hours crawling about on all fours like an arthritic bear, I just wanted to kick back on the deck, sip something cool, and watch a sunset. Instead I got to bundle up, shiver, have a steaming cup of coffee, and watch a sky turn from daylight to twilight to dark without so much as a modest blush colorwise. I felt I'd been sorely tried—hence the whine.
Solitary…
Your plan sounds delightfully workable, except possibly for the whispered sweet nothings in Myladylove's ear—that because I've just gotten her fitted up and off for the day (and the next 21 days) with her new monitor. She's about as wired up as Dr. Frankenstein most famous patient, with various leads, sensors, recording devices, charge cords, etc. The thing records, saves, and automatically sends via its own cell phone, a variety of data. I expect my "sweet nothings" would be on YouTube within an hour of their utterance…which might or might not be a good thing.
What on God's earth IS a bank holiday? Do the tellers just dip into the vaults and take off to the beach for a few days on your squirreled-away savings?
Jayne…
I did. Not that Ol' Sun listened. But I said my piece.
HEY GRIZZ
Only you can give a lecture to nature. :-)
Love you
Gail
peace.....
Gail…
Hey, I griped…and whomever is in charge up there listened! Today is absolutely stellar—bright blue sky, 80 degrees.
How neat is that!
...very neat, very neat indeed. :-)
Gail…
Yup…I'm taking full credit for today.
I think that weather has moved here Jim, rather than back to Siberia - 9 degrees today and a North East wind.
Weaver…
Well, it is mid-70s here now; much better than a few days ago. And the cold seemed to bother me more than it did plants. But I'll tell you, it sure froze my fanny off for a couple of days there.
Hope the cold moves on from your dales area soon, too.
