HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

From us riverbank denizens to you…

I hope your turkey turns out perfect, that the dressing isn't too dry or the gravy lumpy, and that the whole feast is enjoyed amid a spirit of love, laughter, and thankful celebration.

Have a wonderful day Grizz. I can just imagine the mouth-watering smells wafting through your home right about now.

I am grateful for all the many gifts you share here, not the least of which is your innate gratitude for this gift of life.

George…

Happy Thanksgiving to you, my friend.

Somehow, the nuthatch seemed appropriate…

We are indeed into the thick of the battle—and the entire house is redolent with roasting turkey, cranberries simmering, spices being mixed into pies, and such, the sage in the dressing, apples and oranges being peeled or chopped, walnuts warming in a pan, garlic, onions…not to mention candles, the hearthfire and coffee on the perk in the great room, and yeast rolls on the rise.

And I'm thankful with all my heart to be so blessed.

Bernie…

Thank you. I hope your day, holiday or not, went wonderfully. We've now enjoyed our feast. (With plenty of leftovers for later.) As usual, we spent hours at the table. And speaking personally, I still didn't manage to sample everything.

But it just might have been our best meal ever…and the best part is, there's plenty of day yet ahead!

Hope you have had a great day. I've enjoyed the spirit of Thanksgiving with all my American blogger friends.

Freda…

I'm glad you enjoyed Thanksgiving vicariously. I had a great time and day. And I can't speak for all Yanks, but this one is full of turkey, good cheer, and gratitude—and the celebration has finally caught up with me.…I'm heading to bed.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Grizz. Sorry this comes a little belated. Trust the cooking went well, and the meal was sumptuous, and the company excellent.

We do not observe the occasion in Asia, but as we have a few American friends, a group of us have decided to cook a Thanksgiving dinner for them. So for them (and us) we shall celebrate and share Thanksgiving tonight.

Thank you for your blog. I have truly enjoyed your photography, and had learnt plenty about nature from here.

Rebecca...

Your nice comment is not late, but simply in time to be savored. What you are doing with your meal, sharing food and time with friends, amid a spirit of gratitude, captures the true meaning of our Thanksgiving holiday. I think it is wonderful!

I'm pleased you enjoy the blog.

oh, this photo brought a smile to my face on this rainy morning.
I never tire of bird photos.

I hope your Thanksgiving was abundant in all things.

I am grateful to have shared in all of the gratitude from my American blogging loves.

thank you

Deb…

Thanksgiving went great! Splendid food, good company…couldn't have asked for more.

I never tire of taking bird photos, though lens-wise, I'm rather under-equipped. But I do the best I can with what I have, and maybe one of these days I'll get the bigger lens.

Glad you enjoyed sharing our Thanksgiving, and reading Riverdaze. You're always welcome to do both.

...love that nuthatch photo. He has chutzpah with that stance! Our Thanksgiving was wonderful...family, fun, and of course, homemade turkey gravy. Thanks for the wishes. I hope yours was filled with family and loved ones too!

Kelly…

Thank you…and you got it right, that nuthatch does have chutzpah. And that look it's giving me is one of "hurry up—fill that feeder…I haven't got all morning!"

Turkey giblet gravy here, too—for putting atop the mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and my grandmother's cornbread and biscuit dressing. I have a stepson who comes to primarily eat turkey and gravy—and I always make about 5-6 quarts, which is barely enough. Gotta have gravy…

...a day with homemade turkey gravy is a good day indeed! We live for that day! Matty has started to take over the gravy making. This year he and my brother stirred and hovered and conjured over it...in the end it's never enough!!

Kelly…

It's a well-known kitchen mystery…no matter how much giblet gravy you make, you always run short—at least by the end of the first "leftovers" meal. (Which typically occurs about 5–7 hours after the initial feast, and is generally referred to as "Round Two.")
